Overlander Ski Club has received a Direct Access grant from the BC Lotteries Commission which has enabled the Club to start a School Ski Program. Anyone interested in participating in this program should contact Jonas Tucker (320 4820). The program ran for a couple months last year with great success, and will be active from December 2007 to March 2008.
The program is primarily focused on grades 3, 4 and 5. Lessons will take place at Stake Lake, a 25 minute drive from Kamloops, all instructors have at least Level 1 Technical in the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP). The goal of the Overlander Ski Club School Program is to ensure that kids have a safe, fun, affordable and memorable experience learning how to ski at the Overlander Ski Club trails.
Classes with different age groups are also welcome to visit the Stake Lake Ski Trails and may be able to participate in the Ski S’kool Program subject to equipment and coach availability, rental equipment may be arranged at local ski shops.
The Ski S’Skool Program equipment will accommodate grades 3, 4 and 5.
The Ski S’Kool Program will show you how to maximize your enjoyment on the trails. The program is educational and is designed to develop social skills that are so important at these ages.
There will be opportunities to learn:
*Safety on the trails
*Basic ski skills
*Interaction in a group setting
Our instructors are friendly, eager to help, and are committed to do whatever it takes to make your students’ visit to Stake Lake Cross Country Ski Area enjoyable. Our instructors are trained to instruct their groups along the trails in a safe, fun manner, and will teach students to do the same.
Prices are on a per visit basis, the cost will be $11.00 per visit , this includes a day pass, equipment, a 1.5 - 2 hour lesson. A reduction of $4.00 will be made if the student has their own equipment and $2.00 if they have a season’s pass. Transportation to and from the Stake Lake Trail System will be the responsibility of the school.
Supervisors or chaperones must be provided by the school on the basis of one adult per ten students. One supervisor(teacher or parent) per 10 students will receive a free trail pass. Additional adults with the group will be charged the usual trail fee ($9.00/day). Supervisors or chaperones are expected to participate with the students during lessons and to accompany the students after the lesson has been completed, instructors are not responsible for supervision of the students. Please note that adult equipment is not available for rent on site at the trails at this time. Equipment can be rented at Funstuff or Spoke n’ Motion.
We have a first aid attendant on staff at the trails and the instructors will have radio contact with that attendant at all times.
